Caperdonich

The Caperdonich Distillery started in 1897 as a ‘sister’ distillery of Glen Grant in the city of Rothes in Speyside with the uninspiring name Glen Grant #2. In 1902 the distillery closed its doors and only in 1965 production restarted. At that time the law prohibited the use of the same name for two distilleries so the owners had to find a alternative for Glen Grant #2. They named it Caperdonich, which means “secret well” and it was used mainly to supply single malt whisky for the blending industry. As a result there are no official single malt bottlings and only a couple of independent releases. Making things even more interesting is the fact that Caperdonich closed down in 2002 and is likely to never start producing again.

The MO ÒR Caperdonich was distilled in 1972 and withstood the test of time to turn into a polished, mouthcoating beauty.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Needs a moment to breathe, but reveals a beautiful composition of fresh and fruity notes. Also some dates and figs. Excellent balance.

Taste: More smooth features in the taste with cream, something nutty and heather aromas.

Finish: Outstanding long and flowery finish. Lavender and herbal tea come to the fore. A delicate flavour of mint is in there as well.
