Caol Ila

The Caol Ila Distillery is beautifully situated in a remote cove near Port Askaig on the isle of Islay. Its the largest distillery on Islay and produces roughly a quarter of all malt whisky on the island. Known for its spicy and peaty character it makes up an important part of the Johnny Walker blends, but has got a immaculate reputation as a single malt whisky aswell.

The MO ÒR Caol Ila from 1980 is no exception to that rule and combines a unusual sweet nose accompanied with the famous “peaty” kick Islay whiskies are known for.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Medicinal aromas. Salty and heathery as well. Finally some grassy scents and citrus aromas.

Taste: Smoked fish and gingerbread too. Nuts and pastry. Creamy texture.

Finish: A salty freshness appears. Fades slowly but turns a tad dry.
