Benriach

The Benriach Distillery was founded in 1898 by John Duff, who also owned the Longmorn Distillery a quarter of a mile away. Benriach is located in the heart of the Speyside, midway the village of Rothes and the city of Elgin. A interesting fact of Benriach is that the distillery remained silent between 1900 and 1965, except for its floor maltings which continued to supply Longmorn through out the period of closure.

The MO ÒR Benriach from 1991 has aged in a bourbon hogshead barrel for 19 years. A typical sweet Speysider with a pleasant but slightly lingering finish.

Tasting Notes

Nose: A complex set of aromas with lots of vegetables and herbs. Sugar snaps and cucumber on the fore. A pinch of salt as well.

Taste: Creamy and oily with earthy tones. Maybe some heather far away.

Finish: More cream and even greasy at times, but full of subtle flavours. Heatherhoney but also sweet herbs.
